Chapter 230 200m Preliminaries

At 18:30 on August 7th, London time, the men's 200m preliminaries will begin.

Today's World Championships only has evening matches, and there are several finals to watch, so the attendance rate is much higher than yesterday.

The men's 200-meter competition is divided into three rounds: preliminaries, semi-finals (semi-finals), and finals.

The 200-meter event is different from the 100-meter event. The semi-finals and finals will not be held on the same day in any competition. The three rounds of competition are usually one day apart. However, the difference in this World Championship is that the men's 200-meter event will not be held on the same day.

The interval between the preliminaries and the semi-finals is two days, and the semi-finals will not be held on August 8 but on August 9.

A total of 52 people participated in the men's 200-meter event at this World Championships, divided into 8 preliminary groups, including 3 groups of eight players, 4 groups of seven players, and 1 group of one player.

Yes, you read that right, one person did the preliminaries alone.

During the London World Championships, a hotel officially designated by the IAAF was detected with norovirus. The virus caused 30 athletes and their staff to develop gastrointestinal infection symptoms, and Botswana star Makawala was

is one of them.

Makavala was quarantined by the IAAF for 48 hours due to vomiting and diarrhea, and automatically withdrew from the 200m preliminaries and 400m finals. For this reason, the IAAF officially held a separate 200m preliminaries for him.

If the original timeline had been followed, Makawala would have successfully passed the preliminaries, semi-finals, and ranked sixth in the final with a time of 20 seconds 44.

The promotion rules for the men's 200m preliminaries are that the top three in each group will directly advance to the semi-finals. Due to Makawala, the number of supplementary places will become 4, and a total of 25 players will advance to the semi-finals.

Frankly speaking, this promotion rule is somewhat unfair to the substitute players. Maybe some players are placed in a stronger group and have good results, but they can only be substituted, and they may not be promoted in the end. But if they are assigned

Athletes from a weaker group may be able to advance to the top three in the group with average results, but their actual results may not be as good as those of the four substitutes.

We can also see the gap between the World Championships and the Olympic Games. The men's 100-meter event is okay, with a large number of experts and fierce competition. The men's 200-meter event has more than 20 fewer people than last year's Rio Olympics, and the competition is not so fierce.

"Who are Xiao Wu's main opponents in the 200 meters? I heard that South Africa's Van Niekerk is very good, and there is also the younger player Lyles from the United States. What is their strength?

"

In the audience, coaches such as Randy and Yuan Guoqiang accompanied several officials from the Sports Bureau and the Embassy in the UK to watch the game. Deputy Wang of the Sports Bureau asked the coaches.

"There are actually many capable athletes," Yuan Guoqiang pointed to the first group of athletes preparing in the starting area: "That is Jamaica's Yohan Blake. He is the second person in the history of 200 meters. Although he has received

Injured but in very good condition this year. Next to him is a young player from Neon named Sani Brown, who is the holder of the world junior 100-meter record and is also very good in the 200-meter..."

Randy and Ralphman listened to Yuan Guoqiang's words and shook their heads with a smile. Forget Blake, who the hell is Sani Brown? He can also touch Wu Ziyi?

Deputy Director Wang naturally saw the expressions of Randy and Ralfman, and asked curiously: "Mr. Randy seems to have a different view?"

"I know you Chinese are always modest about price comparisons, but this is really unnecessary." Randy replied, "I can tell you responsibly that in the 200-meter field, Uzi has no opponent. His current physical condition is very

Well, there are no injuries that can affect the performance. Whether it is Blake, Lyles, or Van Niekerk, their current 200-meter hard strength is far inferior to Uzi. Instead of analyzing Uzi's opponents, it is better to analyze

Let’s analyze whether XIE can enter the finals.”

Randy said it so bluntly and without any concealment, and everyone looked at each other in shock.

"XIE's ability to enter the 100-meter final really surprised us. Of course, there are also reasons for this year's average strength of the players as well as weather, wind speed and other issues. As for the 200-meter, which is his main event, no matter whether his group in the semi-finals is strong or weak,

I have no reason to believe he can't make it to the final."

While everyone was talking, the first group of preliminaries was over. Yohan Blake ranked first in the group with a time of 20 seconds 39 (-0.5m/s) and advanced to the finals. Sani Brown advanced to the second place in the group with a time of 20 seconds 52.

Alex Wilson of Switzerland was third in the group in 20.54 seconds.

In the subsequent second group, Trinidad and Tobago’s Jeremiah Richards advanced to first place in the group with a time of 20.05 (-0.6m/s); Noah Lyles made a splash and ran a 20.16

, ranked second in the group and advanced; Jamaica’s Rasheed Dwyer ranked third in the group in 20.49 seconds.

In the third group of preliminaries, South African star Van Niekerk ran a time of 20.16 seconds (0.3m/s) and advanced to the first place in the group; English player Daniel Talbot also ran a time of 20.16 seconds and ranked second in the group.

; Slovakia’s Ján VOLKO finished third in the group in 20.52 seconds.

In the fourth group of preliminaries, Amir Guliyev, the current men's 200m champion in the original timeline, appeared and advanced to the first place in the group with 20 seconds 16 (0.7m/s); the unlucky country's Amir Weber ranked first in the group with 20 seconds 22

The second team advanced; French star Christophe Lemaitre advanced in third place in the group with a time of 20.40 seconds.

In the fifth group of the preliminaries, Xie Zhenye finally appeared. From the beginning of the game, he ran at his own pace. After entering the straight, he kept observing the positions of his opponents, and finally chose to follow the Kenyan player Sini who had an obvious lead.

-SydneySIAME ran the last 20 meters in a hurry.

Xini Saiami ranked first in the group with a time of 20 seconds and 29 (-0.6m/s); Xie Zhenye easily let go with a time of 20 seconds and 31 seconds and advanced to the semi-finals with a second place in the group; Special

Trinidad and Tobago's Kyle Greo was third in the group in 20.48 seconds.

"Not bad, Xiao Xie's running is quite good. If he can beat the water, it means his performance can be improved, hahaha——"

Seeing Xie Zhenye's performance, several officials smiled with satisfaction.

In the sixth group of preliminaries, Isiah Yang, a player from China, advanced to the first place in the group with a time of 20 seconds 19 (0.6m/s). Akani Sibini, who was on the men's 100-meter final stage with Wu Ziyi the day before yesterday, ran 20 seconds.

The score of 26 ranked second in the group, and the Greek player Sakonas ranked third in the group in 20 seconds and 37. In addition, the host English player Janne Hughes ran in 20 seconds and 43 and ranked fourth in the group. He still has a great chance.

Replacement into the semi-finals.

Wu Ziyi, who was the biggest favorite to win, was of course placed in the eighth group. With Wu Ziyi's appearance, the stadium immediately ushered in a small climax, and the number of people in the stands was much larger than before.

Perhaps because he was under too much pressure when he was in the same group as Wu Ziyi, Aaron Brown, the Ghanaian athlete who was originally good enough to advance to the semi-finals, was sent off for a false start. Clarence, who would set the South African national 200-meter record in the future,

-ClarenceMUNYAI was also disqualified because he drifted during the corner.

It is indeed a pity that Aaron Brown's Diamond League competition has always been within 20 seconds and 30 seconds. Even if he starts more steadily, he still has a chance to advance. Munia, a teenager in 1998, has broken 20 seconds four times this year.

30 seconds. This time he tried his best to run 20 seconds 28. If it weren't for the mistake of crossing the boundary, he would have been able to advance.

In the seventh group of preliminaries, Wu Ziyi led all the way from the corner, released nearly 50 meters, and ranked second in the group with 20.14 (0.7m/s); English player Mitchell Blake gave his best and ran 20.05 in the group.

First, Neon’s Rice Cup Shota ranked fourth in the group with 20.58 seconds.
