117 No one is innocent
The full name of Juyan is "Zhangye Juyan's vassal state".
The so-called vassal state refers to the administrative divisions set up during the Han Dynasty to resettle the minority groups such as the Xiongnu, Qiang, and Yi. "Due to the customs of the country", "not changing the customs of the country and belonging to the Han Dynasty". The vassal state is established, and "the vassal state commander is appointed, "those who surrender to the barbarians." There are officials such as chiefs, marquis, and thousands of people, and they are appointed by Han people or the leader of the Hu people and Qiang. "The people govern the people and lead the military power like the county prefect."
In other words, the vassal state is not a state (please note). It is an administrative division similar to the county level, which is comparable to the autonomous region in later generations. The vassal state has its own army, which is the so-called "Hu Qi".
The Han court gave the vassal states great autonomy, so that it "keeps the name of the country and belongs to the Han Dynasty". Because of the fact that many self-control, officials did not frequently make frequent exchanges on weekdays. Therefore, once something happened, the Liangzhou Governor's Department would realize it later.
Zhangye’s Juyan Qun Kingdom was established in the fourth year of Yuanfeng (107 BC). Its land is located in the southern part of Zhangye County, upstream of the Ruoshui River. The Ruoshui (Heihe) originated from the Qilian Mountains flows through the Hexi Corridor and finally flows into Juyanze. A large precious oasis is formed in the depths of the desert. It is the location of Juyan Qun Kingdom.
Emperor Wu established the Zhangye vassal state to resettle the surrendered Xiaoyue tribe. Therefore, its people were composed mainly of Xiaoyue tribe, including the Qiang tribe, and the mixed Hu people formed by integrating the Xiongnu, Qiang, and Xiaoyue tribes - Qin Hu, Lushui Hu, etc.
During the Western Han Dynasty, between the Hungary and Qiang could pass through Yanze (Lop Nur) and Nanshan (Qilian Mountain), and head south to the Qaidam Basin, and connect with each other. The upper reaches of the southern part of Zhangye County, where the Zhangye vassal state is located, is the main transportation route between the Hungary and Qiang.
The establishment of the Zhangye vassal state was to "isolate the Qiang and Hu" and realize the strategy of "cutting off the right arm of the Xiongnu."
In the third year of Taichu (102 BC), Lu Bode, the powerful crossbow commander, "built Juyan on the Yanze" and built a barrier to the enemy. "Records of the Grand Historian: Biography of Dayuan" also records that "the soldiers of the garrison, 180,000 soldiers from the garrison were found in the north of Zhangye, and Juyan was established, and Jiuquan was spared to guard Jiuquan."
In the same year, Juyan Duwei Mansion was established in Juyan area, and then systematically built military barriers. At that time, "Juyan Duwei" was under the jurisdiction of Jiaqu, Sanjing, and the three marquis officials in the north. Each marquis officials managed dozens of beacon towers, and the beacon towers were stationed in different sizes, ranging from dozens to hundreds of garrison soldiers. They were also classified by "marquis chief" and "beacon tower".
During the Wangmang period, the northern border counties and beacon pavilions were destroyed by the Huns. Emperor Guangwu revitalized the border counties. Later, he followed the southern nomadic peoples such as the Southern Xiongnu, Wuhuan, and Xianbei to move southward. Now the Han Dynasty has handed over the northern border defenses to these inner-affiliated ethnic groups to guard. In the Juyan area, Zhangye Juyan vassal states were used to manage the Qin Hu, Lushui Hu and other northern ethnic groups.
In the first year of Shenjue (61 BC), the Han Dynasty wanted to attack Han from Jiuquan and Zhangye in the Xianshui area. When the Qiang Kai, it was ordered that "Changshui University Commander Fuchang, Jiuquan Hou besieged the general of the world, and the Yuezhi soldiers were 4,000 soldiers" to join the war. Zhao Chongguo, the then-Lao General, also suggested that the farm be farmed in the area east of Linqiang to Haoyao (hào wěi). He also wanted to "distribute the county cavalry and the Hu cavalry of the vassal states, each of them... and those who traveled to the fields were wandering."
The "Yuezhi Soldiers" and "Hu Cavalry of the vassal state" mentioned above are the "Little Yuezhi Cavalry" of the vassal state of Zhangye.
During the Han Dynasty, the cavalry of the Xiaoyuezhi was often used to attack the Western Qiang, and they often defeated the majority with few. "The Hu of the Xiaoyuezhi lived in the Senei, and the two or three thousand cavalrymen were brave, strong and strong. Whenever they fought with the Qiang, they often used few to control the majority." Although "they were used at the time", they were often forced by the Western Qiang, so they were the two ends of the rat, "they fought with the Han army and followed the strength and weakness."
At that time, Deng Xun, the captain of the Qiang Dynasty, changed his previous strategy of "Qianhu attacking each other" and "using barbarians to attack the barbarians". He waited for Xiaoyuezhi and other troops with kindness and trust, and finally convinced them. They all hoped that "only the orders of the king" and "Xun then raised hundreds of young brave men among them, thinking that they were righteous."
However, the barriers and beacons built by the former Han Dynasty were all to defend against enemies from the desert.
If you go from Hexi to the heart-to-heart place and hit Juyan directly, it is equivalent to going from the softest abdomen of the hedgehog. If you hit the back, Juyan's vassal state will be unprepared.
What Liu Bei didn't know was.
Just when Qifu tribe entered the Western Regions and the border was in a hurry. Month ago, the governor of Liangzhou Zhou Hong ordered Juyan Duwei to rush to Yumen and Yangguan to support Yumen and Yangguan. The troops of Juyan's vacancies were empty. The Tufa tribe took advantage of the situation behind the scenes. It has been more than a month since then, and I don't know what the situation in Juyan should do.
The deeper worry is that once the Bad Tribe occupies Juyan, which is rich in water and grass, and the beacon towers near the desert, it is equivalent to opening up the connection with the Qifu Tribe. The two Xianbei tribes can be directly connected from outside the border through the Mongolian Plateau without having to walk through the Hexi Corridor again.
"This is a very detailed strategic layout." On the carriage heading to Juyan, after discussions and sorting out with the chief clerk Li Ru, Liu Bei finally saw the whole picture of the Xianbei chaos.
The Qifu tribe entered the Western Regions indiscriminately, annexed small countries, lured large countries, and made an attempt to attack the border. When the border was in a hurry, the governor of Liangzhou drove the troops under his command and rushed to rescue. Even the troops in the territory were empty, with more than enough defense in the city, and insufficient foreign wars. He could only sit and watch the Tufa Xianbei looting everywhere and poison the Hexi Corridor business road.
The war was filled with fire, and the county soldiers put out the fire everywhere, running away. However, the real main force of the Tufa Xianbei was lurking in secret for a long time. Just waited for the Juyan Duwei to lead the Xiaoyuezhi cavalry to the border to rush to the rescue, and then all the cavalry came out to occupy Juyan!
I believe that the Juyan messengers who crossed the desert and sent to Wuwei and other places all died at the hands of the Qiang people.
Although the details are not fully understood. However, Li Ru and Liu Bei, the chief minister, still had an insight into the entire conspiracy.
"Once the plan succeeds, Juyan falls and the border is in urgent need. The court will transfer the soldiers of the Huya Camp in Chang'an, Liyang Camp, Yong Camp, and the third camp to help. Even the guards in the capital are empty." Li Ru stretched out his hand and said, "The Eastern Qiang took advantage of the chaos and plundered the Three Guards."
Looking at the mountains and rivers of the Han Dynasty, Liu Bei was sweating continuously: "A single move will move the whole body. The three auxiliary people are in turmoil, and the court will inevitably dispatch troops from Guandong to quell the chaos. It is because the Kanto garrison is loose..."
Li Ru nodded slightly: "Taipingdao took advantage of the situation to raise troops in Guandong, and chaos was coming."
Liu Bei had never felt such a terrible hatred: "So. This conspiracy, Taipingdao, Qiang, the two Xianbei, and even the countries in the Western Regions, all participated in it. No one was innocent."
Li Ru, who was afraid that the world would not be in chaos, chuckled: "The Lord said that he dared not play chess with the 'that person'. Now (Li) Ru's view is that this person is indeed a bit tricky. Interesting, interesting."
Seeing that the chief clerk smiled so lightly, Liu Bei also felt relieved: "The chief clerk already has a way to crack it?"
"Yi Er." Li Ru smiled and said, "These four words can explain this situation: to use the plan."
"I wish to hear it carefully." Liu Bei was so beautiful that his heart was bubbling. 100 million yuan was exchanged for Li Wenyou. How cheap!
"The lord just needs to do this..." Li Ru said with his ears.
At night, the convoy camped in a leeward bay in Ruoshui River Valley.
More than a hundred government vehicles were assembled as camps. Twelve enhanced barracks were assembled as the tent of the Central Army in the shape of a 'field'.
The lights and candles in the big tent are bright, and the lights are as bright as day.
All the generals came to see each other. Liu Bei also asked four Xianbei centurions who had just surrendered to attend the meeting.
In just one day, Shi Huan and others had already figured out the origin of the 500 Xianbei Tuqi. The reason why they were sent to plunder caravans alone was far away from most of the Tufa people was because they were not a direct line. They suffered losses, which was not a pity.
In terms of origin, they were the Jie (jié) Hu. Shangdang was the settlement of Jie Hu. Before entering the border, they were slave cavalry affiliated to the Southern Xiongnu, that is, "The Huns Fall". Later, the Xianbei was in great power and entered the pass to plunder. Shangdang Jie Hu then took refuge in the Xianbei and fought for them.
After entering the Barclays, the Jie people retained the original tribal ecology. The tribes had large and small chiefs. They mainly engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry and believed in "Hu Tian" (Zoroastrianism). After people died, they were cremated.
By the way, Liu Bei couldn't tell how many Hu tribes there are around the Han Dynasty today.
None of this matters.
